LEARNING · CHILDREN’S HOUSE · AGES 3–6

The conscious
absorbent mind.

Between 3 and 6, children enter a transformative phase. Our Children’s House gives them an orderly world to discover, explore and master.

FROM CONCRETE TO ABSTRACT

Each element prepares the child for more complex work.

In our classrooms, the child lives in a very orderly environment that gives them the opportunity to discover and explore the world. We start with concrete presentations and gradually move towards abstract learning.

As children move from one activity to another, they continue to practise, perfect and then master what they have learned—each element an indirect preparation for further work.

A MIXED-AGE COMMUNITY

Freedom, trust and mutual respect.

The community in which the child evolves is mixed-age, allowing them to become socially responsible. The Children’s House is an environment very rich in materials, meeting physical, emotional and intellectual needs.

Children evolve in an atmosphere of freedom, trust, satisfaction and mutual respect.

FOUR MAIN AREAS OF THE PROGRAMME

Hands that think. Minds that grow.

01 / PRACTICAL LIFE

The work of the hand

Practical life invites the child to perfect the work of the hand while developing concentration. The child’s desire for order and independence finds expression through materials that develop fine motor and other skills needed for more complex Montessori equipment.

02 / SENSORIAL LIFE

Awakening the senses

Sensorial work awakens all the senses—and with them intelligence and a critical, logical mind. Children manipulate, discover and name shapes, compositions, textures, weights, temperatures and sizes. Sensory life is the basis of language and mathematics.

03 / MATHEMATICS

From concrete to abstract

A wide range of materials gives children concrete experiences through which they fully understand abstract concepts. They physically add, subtract, multiply and divide with manipulatives before moving on to memorising mathematical facts.

04 / LANGUAGE

Everything is language

The child constructs language through interactions with others. Spoken and written language are woven through the environment, and children are given rich vocabulary with which to express themselves, to write and to read.
